Waterloo Region’s Rental Vacancy Rates Lower in 2011
The Canada Mortgage and Hosing Corporation (CMHC) has released their "Rental Market Report" for Kitchener-Cambridge-Waterloo and Guelph CMAs. The complete 2011 report can be downloaded (PDF) here.
Some highlights of this rental market documents include:
• The average vacancy rate in Waterloo Region and area (Kitchener CMA) moved lower to 1.7 per cent.

• More students and young adults renting and less movement into home ownership exerted downward pressure on rental vacancies in Waterloo and area.
• The average rent in 2011 for a two bedroom unit increased by 1.5 per cent compared to last year.
• In 2012, the vacancy rate in the Kitchener CMA is expected to move slightly higher to 1.9 per cent.

The average rental apartment vacancy in Canada's 35 Major centres decreased to 2.2% in October 2011 compared to 2.6% in October 2010.
